Culbin Sands

A beautiful and wild remote sandy beach reached through the Culbin Forest.

A wild and beautiful beach reached through the Culbin Forest from the main car park at Wellhill. It is a two mile walk to the coast and the route can be confusing so make sure you pick up one of the free maps provided by the Forestry Commission. The beach and its adjoining sandbar stretch west for some 10 miles from near Nairn to the mouth of the River Findhorn.Along the shore you can find the remains of posts that were used to support stake nets for catching salmon. The shallow salt marsh behind the sandbar is studded with anti-glider poles erected in 1940 when it was thought that the Germans might invade the country. In winter the beach is a good spot to watch long tailed ducks, eiders and scoters.Car Park Charge. Public Toilets.
