Founded in 1753 by Cumbrian iron masters, this is the most complete charcoal fuelled ironworks in Britain.
Once a place of fire and fury, the most complete charcoal-fuelled ironworks in Britain are now tranquil. Step inside the stone furnace complex and storage building of this pioneering 18th century site and discover the Highlands' role in the Industrial Revolution. The furnace only ceased firing in 1870.Take a walk through beautiful grounds down to the quayside where raw materials were once unloaded. The views up Loch Etive are breathtaking.
