Kilmartin Church

A prominent church, it is well known for its stone crosses and superb collection of beautifully carved medieval grave slabs.

This attractive church, in a prominent position overlooking Kilmartin Glen, was built in 1834 on the site of churches dating back probably to early Christian times. Within the church are two superb early stone crosses, one of which has been here for well over a thousand years. The churchyard boasts a superb collection of West Highland grave slabs. In the raised enclosure are beautifully carved slabs that once covered the graves of members of the Malcolm family from nearby Poltalloch. The former mausoleum to the rear of the church houses another 23 grave slabs dating from the 1200s to the early 18th century.
