Ormaig Rock Carvings

Overlooking Loch Craignish, this is of the best and most isolated rock art sites in Scotland, with many carvings on four exposed sheets of rock. The 5000 year old carvings are very varied with some unusual designs including a ‘rosette’ pattern. The rock includes 19th century graffiti. John Campbell 1874 and Archie Campbell 1877 inscribed their names there. The site was not improved in the 1960s when the Forestry Commission planted trees over most of it.Ormaig is best reached from Carnasserie Castle by following the track over the hill. Once you get to the far side turn right towards Ormaig House. There is a sign by the burn and a track up to the carvings.
