Loch Einich
Loch Einich

Loch Einich

This is wild and remote loch sits at the head of Glen Einich and is a long but rewarding walk or cycle from Loch an Eilein.

At the head of Glen Einich below the cliffs of Sgoran Dubh Mhor this is one of the remotest lochs in the Cairngorms. Despite its distance from any woodland it was once damned and its water used to help float flogs down from the forests of Rothiemurchus to the Spey. You can still see the remains of the dam, though the sluice gates have long disappeared. The loch is reached by an attractive walk or cycle of some 7 miles through the pine forests and on up Glen Einich where there is a ford to cross.
