Ardneil Bay

A small sandy beach close to a castle.

This delightful sandy beach with good views across to Arran, is just to the east of Farland Head and Portencross Castle. It was here on March 20th1884 that the Petchlee, a Norwegian brigantine carrying coal from Troon to Christiania in Denmark, was wrecked. The crew were taken off by rocket apparatus. There is parking off the B7048 next to the castle.
