This lighthouse, built in 1912, marks the entrance to Loch Ewe. In World War II it was an important assembly area for convoys sailing to North America and Murmansk in Russia.

In World War II it was an important assembly area for convoys sailing to North America and Murmansk in Russia.In 1985 the light was automated and the buildings were sold into private ownership. The lighthouse complex now offers bed and breakfast and self catering accommodation. The road to the lighthouse from Melvaig is a private road and vehicles are not allowed except for guests with a reservation at the lighthouse accommodation. Visitors are welcome to park at the public car park at Melvaig and continue to the lighthouse on foot or by bicycle. The lighthouse complex is not open to the public and there is no cafe or visitor centre.
