The highest mountain in the far north of Scotland has an elevated summit ridge of white quartzite.

This great mountain has a lofty, white quartzite summit ridge, from which a system of peaks, hidden glens and corries radiate. On the distant north flanks of the mountain can be found the remote Eas a’ Chual Aluinn GR 281278, the highest waterfall in Scotland, with a calculated fall of 200m. Also at 700m altitude on the remote northwest slopes of the mountain, there is a memorial stone GR 295231 to commemorate the crash site of a 1941 Avro Anson plane where six crewmen lost their lives. The mountain is reached by a track from Inchnadamph, one of the few limestone areas in the north, well known for its caves and special plants. From the summit there are expansive views from the Moray Firth to the Outer Hebrides.
