Foinaven 914m (2999ft)

With its grey-white quartzite summit ridge, this is a dramatic and easily identified mountain.

This fairy-tale mountain (just shy of Munro status) rises defiantly out of the surrounding flatlands into a superb summit ridge with a neat display of grey-white quartzite peaks, the highest of which is Ganu Mor (Big Wedge). The north side of the mountain has many large hidden cliffs and corries that are rarely explored. The access to the mountain is from the west and is tantalisingly arduous as much flatland has to be crossed. Walking along the summit ridge on a clear day is almost heavenly, as are the views.
