Ruadh-stac Mor (Beinn Eighe) 1010m (3314ft)

This is the highest summit of a majestic mountain known as Beinn Eighe that sits regally on a northerly spur of the main ridge itself.

This superb, complex mountain of ridges, corries and cliffs has many peaks but only two Munros. In marked contrast to almost all other mountains in the area it is composed of white quartzite rather than the more regular Torridonian sandstone. The best- known feature of the mountain is the Triple Buttress of Coire Mhic Fearchair, which faces north and is hidden from view. Some remains of a Lancaster Bomber which crashed in 1951 can be found in this corrie if one looks hard enough. The slopes are very steep and the ridges sometimes narrow, so walking them gives a feeling of ‘almost’ floating. The main ridge is best accessed by a small car park on the south side of the mountain, where a small footpath wiggles a deceptive path onto the summit ridge.
