Whithorn Trust
Whithorn is Scotland's earliest Christian settlement. Visit the important Museum of carved stones and Iron Age roundhouse
Whithorn is the site of the earliest Scottish Christian settlement, evidenced by a 5th Century carved Christian monument, which pre-dates Iona by over a century. By the 8th Century, St Ninian of Whithorn's cult became national, with pilgrimage routes crossing the country and the seas, with the shrine as their destination. You can now visit the remains of the 12th Century Priory, its crypts where the saint's relics were venerated, the first Christian monument in Scotland, our latest attraction - a full scale Iron Age roundhouse - and our audio visual presentations and exhibition. We also have a cafe with local home-baked treats and a shop. Guided tours of the roundhouse are at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3pm, or ask about group bookings.
