Lothian Motorcoaches - Rosslyn Chapel, Floors Castle & The Scottish Borders

Lothian Motorcoaches - Rosslyn Chapel, Floors Castle & The Scottish Borders
A splendid chapel, beautiful abbey, historic castle and the rolling hills of the Scottish Borders.
This tour heads south on departure from Edinburgh and makes its first stop at one of Scotlands most remarkable buildings, Rosslyn Chapel in the village of Roslin, which features in Dan Browns bestselling novel The Da Vinci Code. Theres lots to see and do at the chapel including a guided talk, admiring the fifteen feet high Lady Chapel, and visiting the information centre containing an innovative storytelling about the construction of the chapel. From Rosslyn Chapel, the tour heads down into the Scottish Borders, passing through the triple peaks of the Eildon Hills and to the picturesque town of Melrose, the tours next stop. The hour long stop in Melrose also provides plenty of time to explore the town or the ruins of Melrose Abbey, dating from 1136. Founded by the Cistercian monks who had close connections with the Knights Templar, legend tells that Melrose Abbey is the burial place of Robert the Bruce's heart, brought back from the crusades in Moorish Spain and is marked by a commemorative stone tablet. As the tour continues on we stop next at Floors Castle, Kelso, for lunch and the chance to discover all that the stunning country house castle has to offer. Originally built in the 1720s by the architect William Adam for Duke John, today it houses a collection of fine art, porcelain, newly restored tapestries, grand rooms and superb views. Theres plenty to do during your visit to the vast estate - shop, eat and wander through formal and informal gardens, or take a guided tour. We leave Floors Castle mid-afternoon to return to Edinburgh.
