A British politician and substantial landowner the 5th Duke of Buccleuch, 1806 -1884, is best remembered in Edinburgh as the builder of Granton Harbour. It was a substantial port in its day and the main link to Fife and the north before the Forth Rail Bridge was built. In the 1830s he was one of the first people to import Labrador dogs from Canada.
