A boarding school, it was established in 1847 to feed, shelter and educate some of the Old Town’s many destitute children.
A boarding school, it was established in 1847 to feed, shelter and educate some of the Old Town’s many destitute children. Porridge and molasses were served for both breakfast and supper; and bread and a ‘very nutritious soup’ for dinner. At night the dining room was converted into a dormitory, with accommodation in hammocks for 45 children.The former Ragged School is now part of the Camera Obscura & World of Illusions.
