The largest monument to a writer in the world, this memorial to Sir Walter Scott, the famous Scottish author was proposed just two weeks after he died in 1832.Completed in 1844, the monument soars 61m (200ft) above Princes Street and offers outstanding views of the city from a series of viewing galleries. At the bottom of the monument is a statue of Sir Walter Scott with his favourite dog, the Irish wolfhound Maida.There are 287 steps to the top of the Scott Monument, from where you can enjoy breathtaking views of Edinburgh and the surrounding countryside.
