For about a thousand years St Giles has been Edinburgh's principal church, and more recently Scotland's national church.
For about a thousand years St Giles has been Edinburgh's principal church, and more recently Scotland's national church. The magnificent interior with its many superb stained glass windows has memorials to many famous Scots and includes the Thistle Chapel built in 1911. It hasn't always looked like it does today. After the Reformation in 1560 it was partitioned into three separate churches and at one time served as a police station, school, coal store and meeting place for the Parliament and Town Council.
