Holyrood Park is an oasis of wild country in the heart of the city. Its rocky summit, Arthur's Seat and its Salisbury Crags were formed by a volcano some 350 million years ago. It was here that James Hutton the Father of Modern Geology, found evidence to support his theory on the age of the Earth.
