Perhaps the most scenic of Scotland's castles, the original Eilean Donan was built around 1230, before its destruction in 1719 during one of the minor Jacobite uprisings. Rebuilt in the early 20th century she stands proudly as guardian over the lands of Lochalsh.Eilean Donan Castle is dramatically situated on a small isle at the meeting point of three sea lochs - Loch Long, Loch Duich and Loch Alsh. The original castle was built in 1220 for Alexander II as a defence against the Vikings. Come and visit to find out more. Visitor centre, gift shop and coffee shop all on site.
