Bearreraig Waterfall

As seriously impressive waterfall especially when the River Bearreraig is in spate.

The falls, with the river falling over a high cliff, need to be seen from the beach below. The waterfall is at its most impressive after heavy rain as much of the water is diverted to power the 2.5 MW hydro scheme completed in 1952. To reach the falls, if you are coming north from Portree, take the minor road to your right off the A855 just after you pass the Storr lochs. There is a car park at the power station. From there take the steep path down to Bearreraig Bay – a good place to find fossils.
