Known as 'Castle of Gloom' this spectacularly sited 15th century fortress was the lowland stronghold of the Campbells.
Discover the darma of this remarkably well preserved, brooding medieval castle, set high above tree-covered ravines and plunging burns on the edge of the Ochil Hills. This was the lowland residence of the powerful Campbell dynasty, where the Pretestant reformer John Knox came to preach and Mary Queen of Scots came to feast.You can learn about the rise and fall of the Campbells of Argyll and admire the Forth Valley from the rooftops. You can also picnic in beautiful gardens and climb through the Dollar Glen, a haven for plants and wildlife.
